Serve, Learn, and Lead in Real-World Health Settings
The Global Public Health Service Learning Program is an immersive, field-based experience where students apply clinical knowledge while serving in underserved communities. With 40+ hours per week of hands-on learning, students strengthen clinical and leadership skills, deepen their understanding of global health, and return with perspective that transforms both career and character.
What You’ll Experience
- Supervised Clinical Rotations Participate in outpatient, primary care, and community health settings—completing physical assessments, health education, referrals, and care planning alongside trained professionals.
- Humanitarian Service Work Support ongoing health initiatives that align with local community priorities—ranging from child nutrition to maternal health to infectious disease prevention.
- Daily Briefings and DebriefingsEvery day begins and ends with structured academic reflection led by experienced faculty, helping students process, learn, and grow.
- Built-In Leadership Opportunities Each student rotates through leadership responsibilities during the program, building confidence in communication, cultural humility, and team-based care.
- Interdisciplinary CollaborationWork alongside physicians, nurses, social workers, and NGO partners in diverse global environments.
Program Format
- In-Person, Full-Time Commitment Typically two weeks long, with a 40+ hour per week schedule in the field.
- Faculty Oversight Students are supervised by Mission University preceptors and faculty to ensure academic rigor and safety.
- Certificate of CompletionAll participants receive formal documentation of their service and clinical hours.
- Pre-Travel Training Includes health and safety briefings, cultural orientation, and preparation materials for working in low-resource settings.
Sample Program: Peru
In Chaclacayo, Peru, students serve at a health center supporting children with poverty-related illness—from malnutrition and parasitic infection to congenital surgical needs. The program blends clinical rotations with community outreach and daily reflection.

$550 per week + Travel Costs
Mission University keeps programs affordable by pricing based on local cost of living. All students receive a free fundraising course to help offset travel expenses. Typical two-week travel cost estimate from the U.S. to Peru: ~$1,000 after fundraising and scholarship support.
