Phil Tobin is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of donor advised funds in the United States, bringing more than three decades of experience in philanthropy, finance, and nonprofit leadership. He is the Chairman and Founder of iGiftFund, a national, independent sponsor of donor advised funds that empowers financial advisors and their clients to manage and grow charitable investments across platforms. Since launching iGiftFund in 2017, Tobin has continued to expand access to flexible, donor-centered giving solutions that honor both immediate impact and long-term legacy.
His career in philanthropy began in 1986 at The Cleveland Foundation, the nation’s first community foundation, where he served as Chief Financial and Administrative Officer and co-founded The Investment Fund for Foundations (TIFF). In 1992, he co-founded the American Endowment Foundation (AEF), which grew into one of the largest independent sponsors of donor advised funds in the country. Under his leadership, AEF facilitated billions of dollars in contributions, helping donors and their advisors maximize the reach and effectiveness of their giving. Tobin is also a co-founder of the Hudson Community Foundation and has long been active in Rotary International and the Leave A Legacy Society.
Tobin earned his Bachelor of Science in Economics from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he studied investments and corporate finance. With a career defined by innovation in charitable giving and a passion for strengthening communities, he brings invaluable expertise to the Mission University Board of Directors, ensuring the organization’s donor strategy remains transparent, impactful, and sustainable.
